From Observation to Methodology

Throughout my career, I kept making the same observation.

Organizations with similar resources, experienced people, and well-developed management systems often achieved very different results. Some consistently deliver safe work while others struggle to maintain a mature safety culture.

I wanted to understand why.

Every role gave me a different perspective. Working across engineering, manufacturing, operations, quality, and executive leadership taught me that the answer rarely lies in a single process, procedure, or initiative. It lies in how the organization works as a whole.

What initially began as an effort to organize ideas gradually revealed that they were not separate topics, but different perspectives on the same underlying observation. Gradually, the connections became clearer. Leadership, governance, organizational capability, culture, risk management, and organizational learning weren’t independent concepts. They were all influencing the same outcome.

After fully understanding the overlapping concepts that influence organizational outcome, I was able to develop comprehensive, but practical frameworks and methodologies to help deliver safe work.

Those frameworks became the foundation of Thompson Safety & Risk Advisory.

Today, I help organizations strengthen the governance, organizational capability, and culture needed to reliably deliver safe work. At the same time, I continue evolving practical frameworks and methodologies that can help organizations long after my own work is complete.
